Miami usually hosts various types of high-level international meetings and this April 7 and 8 will host one that involves a key part of the economic fabric of the countries: family businesses, which constitute 75 percent of the total of private companies and generate two thirds of employment in Latin America. The conference will be virtual and are called I Latin American Congress on family office management, that is, they will focus on a primary area in the administration of these companies. Representatives of fifty companies on the Continent have confirmed their attendance. It is estimated that more than 2,000 people will participate, from sectors such as food, banking, and household supplies. «We are grateful for the trust they have placed in us and we want to give them information on the subject of the family office because it is extremely useful for this type of company and in Latin America it is still relatively unknown,» says the prestigious Venezuelan lawyer Sergio Parra, president of the organizing body of the Congress, the US chapter of the Latin American Institute of Family Businesses (ILAEF). «In the United States and countries on other continents it is a more common practice,» adds the executive. It is called family office or family office to a group of experts in different subjects that advises family businesses. Parra argues that family businesses are magnificent in many ways, but they carry a number of particular challenges, given their nature. «You have to work with the human factor to avoid mixing business issues with personal ones,» he exemplifies.
