Miami continues to be a magnet for Latin music talent, a sort of convenient home base in many ways, and Argentina’s Hugo Basualdo is good proof of that. After having excelled in his country, this portentous artist has landed in the city in 2018 and has a fairly large professional agenda. «Music is my way of life; it feeds my soul; I am passionate about it, it is not a burden but a blessing to be able to dedicate my best effort to it,» he says.
As for Miami, the guitarist, producer, composer and sound engineer assures that the city «has a mixture of cultures, a great professionalism, and a fun atmosphere, predisposed to enjoyment.» Hugo studied at the School of Contemporary Music of Buenos Aires, whose curricular program is validated by the Berklee School of Music.
In these three years in the United States he has remained at full pace and with a commendable work versatility. Currently Hugo, who is an active member of the Latin Recording Academy, parent of the Latin Grammy Awards, is the artistic manager of the well-known Cervecería La Tropical, in the Wynwood neighborhood. He is co-founder of the production company Clix International, with which he seeks to add more colors to the local music scene, producing concerts by artists such as Larry Carlton, Gustavo Santaolalla and Simon Phillips, among others.
Hugo is a music producer at the Monosonico recording studio; collaborates with the record label Neworld Music; and with the event company Limelight Miami.
Throughout his career, the musician has produced 15 albums, has collaborated on the soundtrack of almost a dozen audiovisuals, and has composed fifty songs. When choosing a favorite musical branch Hugo does not hesitate: «The instrumental because it gives more space for creativity». One of the musician’s immediate plans is to produce an album with his own songs, which would be ready by the end of the year. «I really want to show my new creations,» he says, confident.
