The celebrated Puerto Rican musician pauses in his intense professional schedule, full of concerts and master classes, to make this release.

It is special for Néstor because «Thank you, Willie» marks his return to the smooth jazz genre, after years of absence, and pays tribute to a dear friend, deceased little, Willie Payne.

«His loss was devastating, but one day I told myself that I should pay him a vital tribute, as he was, with the rhythm he liked and ‘Thank you, Willie’ emerged,» says the flutist, about his brand new single.

Payne was a California patron, prosperous businessman, and jazz lover, so much so that he co-founded the San Diego Jazz Festival. The flutist acknowledges that he collaborated in the development of his career.

Néstor was born in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, and grew up in New York. He has recorded 18 solo albums. He has won a Latin Grammy, has been nominated for four others, and once for the American Grammy.

With four decades of career he has earned the status of legend of Latin music, for his individual work and collaboration with Gloria Estefan, Ricardo Arjona, Calle 13 and Cachao, among others.

He has received honorary doctorates from Barry and Carlos Albizu Universities for his commitment to youth, education and cultural exchanges. He has played with symphony orchestras.

«I look back and feel grateful for what I have achieved; there is a legacy developed and built, but I have a lot to achieve, aspirations, dreams, goals,» he reflects.

Néstor’s music is a fusion of Latin, classical, jazz and pop sounds. Rich and attractive, complex and lush. In recent years he has presented two classical albums and one jazz album, «Jazz Flute Traditions».
